Kerr Street Ministries “The Dream Centre” Northeast
Corner of Kerr Street & Prince Charles Drive
Kerr Street Ministries (KSM), as part of our community, has been serving families, and children and youth at risk
for over 12 years. Currently operating out of a converted underground parking garage and other local venues, KSM provides
a number of adult, children and youth programs, including summer day camps, after school programs, youth mentorship, community
meals, and a drop-in centre. Over 2,000 members of our community are served on a regular basis.
As a result of increasing need in the community, particularly among our children and youth, and very limited space in
which to provide services, KSM has embarked upon an ambitious plan. The “Dream Centre”, a 22,000 square foot community
centre consisting of gymnasia, recreation space, professional services and administration, chapel and a drop-in centre, will
provide a central location for all KSM services.
Because of the generous donation of land at the northeast corner of Kerr Street and Prince Charles Drive (former Sunoco
gas station), we now have a proposed location and are currently working through preliminary plans for the development of the
Dream Centre.
If you would like further details on the Dream Centre please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned.
Yours truly,
Ron Shantz, Executive Director

NEIGHBOURHOOD
PARKS
A BUSY PARK IS A SAFE PARK
WESTWOOD PARK
Located on the corner
of Wilson and Bond Streets. The 3 meter fencing surrounding the park was removed summer 2007. A new wandering
pathway close to Kerr Street was installed with 3 additional park benches.

HEAD STREET PARKETTE
Adopted by the residents of the WRRA in October 2005, this park
situated on Forsythe Street looks out onto the Sixteen Mile Creek. A small group of residents in 2006 was formed to
give this parkette a face-lift. Gardens were cut in, topsoil from the Town was spread around, the garbage was cleaned
from the hillside, 3 boulders were installed for sitting on, and perennials were planted. In Spring 2007, a tree or two
will be planted close to the sidewalk. The hydro pole will be replaced on the property line and more topsoil will be
spread onto the gardens with some mulch.

FORSTER PARK
Located in the "hub" of our community between South and North
Forster Park Drives. We are fortunate that we have one of only two community parks that has a full service washroom
brick building. On a weekly rotating basis, residents take turns opening/closing the washroom daily from June 1 to Sept.
30.
Forster Park also has a tennis court, basketball nets and playground
containing climbers, sandbox and swings. In 2006, 12 new trees were planted by local residents in partnership with the
Town of Oakville.
Our successful Annual June Picnic is held here.

FLORENCE PARK
Located at the east end of Florence Street.
BRIDGE PARKETTE
This parkette was adopted by the WRRA in the spring of
2007. The bridge area has been raked and maintained by residents for many years.
In Fall 2006, the ladies of Ladies Night Out planted 100 spring
bulbs and purchased the park bench which was installed in August 2007 overlooking the river. The concrete step was ramped
and some railing was removed to make the area more pleasing to the eye.

ANDERSON BRIDGE PARKETTE
Located at the corner of Forsythe and Rebecca
Streets, the Anderson Bridge was opened in 1961. Up until then, there was a bridge for the tracks of the radial
cars that ran to Hamilton and back. Many people used the old tracks as a walkway to downtown. (pictured below)
A big "thank you" goes out to the Horticultural Society
for kindly and lovingly looking after this Parkette for many years now. They come in the spring and tend to its gardens, which
are beautiful to look at every time we enter our community from the south end. We are also lucky to have a couple of
park benches to rest on in this location.

Located just off Kerr Street on Normandy Drive.

Have you ever thought of a MEMORY BENCH or TREE for yourself, or in memory
of those you love?
When speaking with the Town you can request that a bench or tree gets installed
in THIS community.

When you donate a bench or a tree in memory
of your loved ones, you show that you care for them, and for your community.
