Regional Public Information Meeting
Time & Location
About the Event
There is an important Regional Public Information zoom meeting scheduled for 7pm this Thursday (May 13). It is in our collective interest to have as many representatives from our RAs present as possible – ideally, at least one from each RA.
You can find the Zoom link to the meeting by clicking here and selecting the Oakville PIC.
The purpose of the meeting is to present and discuss the various Growth Concepts under consideration as part of the Regional Official Plan Review. Oakville, Burlington and Halton Hills favour limiting the amount of greenfield expansion of Halton’s existing urban boundaries (aka limiting urban sprawl). Mayor Burton and Halton Hills Regional Councillor Fogal have successfully added a no-expansion (aka no-sprawl) concept (3B) to those under consideration. Milton’s Council, on the other hand, favours the concept which allows the most sprawl. Oakville’s Council asserts (a) that all Halton’s mandated growth to 2051 can be accommodated within existing built areas, and (b) that climate change and recent experience with the COVID pandemic illustrate the need to preserve Halton’s farmland and forests.
